The Difference in Dance - You Need to Know
Know the difference between American Social and International Style and which style of dance is right for you.
American Social style developed in North America, International Style ballroom developed in Europe.
In International Style of Ballroom, the two dancers must remain in body contact at all times and dance to strict tempos of music, while in the American Style, dancers are permitted to open up for under-arm turns, or to separate to dance side by side, allowing for greater freedom of expression. The open work, as it is termed, originated with the dancing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
In American Social, dancers have the ability to dance to all tempos and exciting styles of music, for example the blues, rock and roll, as well as all the standard tempos. American Social is designed for all sizes of dance floor from small nightclubs to grandiose ballrooms.
Essentially, the best thing about American Style dancing is that American Social dancers can do everything International Style dancers do plus they have all of the additional creativity of the open work, self expression, and variety of tempos: the best of both worlds!
Most people will choose American style for their social dancing, because of its greater freedom, versatilty and it's easy to learn!
Beginner
In this class you will learn the basic steps to Fox Trot, Waltz, Swing and Cha – Cha. You will learn the very basics of leading and following. You will feel comfortable and at ease with the relaxed and fun pace of the class.
Intermediate
If you have had dance training and with the instructors acceptance or have completed the Beginners series you will move forward to the Intermediate Level. This level will continue to review and learn the Fox Trot, Waltz, Swing (Jive) and Cha-Cha. The beautiful Rumba and Tango will be introduced.
Advanced
This class is for students who have had a fair amount of dance training in the seven major dances. In this class there is much more of a concentration on technique, posture, lead, follow and styling. Advanced steps and patterns are introduced while continuing to review and practice all the patterns and techniques from previous class levels. Students at this level are “the cream of the crop’! Often at this level students will start performing exhibitons if they wish to do so. This level moves quickly and is great fun for everyone.
Reluctant Beginner
Many people, usually men want to learn to dance however, are quite nervous about beginning the process. Nervous feelings come because learning to dance is an unknown. With the reluctant beginner we give you a chance to ease into dancing and the lessons comfortably and easily. First you will have a private lesson to access what you would like to accomplish and how to go about learning to dance. We will then recommend the appropriate class for you to attend. During this lesson most people realize just how easy and fun learning can be.
Private Lessons
Here at The Triplett School of Ballroom Dance you can learn to dance in group classes or in private classes. One benefit to learning by yourself with an instructor is personal attention and retention at your own pace. Private lessons work well for individuals or couples with odd hours or flexible hours. They are booked on a first come basis. Call and schedule one for yourself today and experience first hand the quality instruction of The Triplett School of Ballroom Dance. Whether you use private lessons as your main form of instruction or as an add-on to your group lesson regime, they can be very fulfilling both technically and creatively.
We offer semi-private lessons as well. Meaning between 2 - 5 couples. Get together a group of friends or co-workers and schedule a personalized class.
Semi-Private lesson pricing is dependant on the amount of people attending. Minimum of 4 people allowed. Call for custom pricing.
Private Lesson Pricing:
1 session (55 minutes) = $60 +tax
